The 47 Ronin, Act 12: Lord Hangan's Tomb - Terrific illustration of the final act from the classic kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura." Having avenged their master's death, the 47 ronin returned to Sengakuji Temple to lay Moronao's head on Lord Hangan's tomb. They are shown here kneeling respectfully in the snow at the gravesite, the severed head wrapped in cloth sitting atop the stone steps. A tall pine tree frames the view, with ships in the harbor at far left. A poignant moment from this incredible story of honor and revenge.
