Ichikawa Danjuro VIII, 1854

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro sitting in a dressing room, looking soberly up at a circular inset of himself in a role as a nobleman. At lower left, a mirror decorated with a peony blossom on the back rests on a red lacquer frame with a makeup brush hanging nearby. The nobleman wears a green floral brocade coat with a pleated collar over a gray kimono with a red and white checked inset, a butterfly fluttering about his head. A nicely detailed design.
