Series; Musical Beauties

Performer, 1878 - Lovely portrait of an elegantly dressed upper-class beauty from a series pairing women performing or playing music with birds and flowers. Each wears a white kimono tucked into red pants beneath an elegant outer robe. A fan-shaped inset above features a bird perched on the stem of a blossoming chrysanthemum. Beautifully detailed with vibrant color, fine line work in the hair, and embossing on the white kimono collar and trim and the white background of the inset. This image appears on page 62 of Amy Reigle Newland's book, "Time Present and Time Past: Images of a Forgotten Master, Toyoharu Kunichika." A rarely seen Kunichika series.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse from previous backing. Slight toning and soiling, a few spots. Please see photos for details.
