Ichikawa Ichizo III as Inaba Kozo Sankichi, 1859 - Handsome kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Ichizo III as Inaba Kozo Sankichi. He hunches forward with an unhappy frown, clutching his kimono sleeves to his chest. His rather unkempt hair is pulled back into a knot at the back of his head, with loose wisps framing his face. He wears a deep blue kimono with a geometric design bordered with a gray and brown plaid and tied with a striped obi, a dotted towel draped over the back of his neck. A few birds flutter in the dark night sky, with a noisemaker to scare away animals tied to a string at upper left. A wonderfully expressive figure with beautiful line work in the hair and a dusting of mica across the top of the night sky.
