Gifts for the Imperial Court

Comments - Handsome scene of the Meiji Empress and the ladies of the court exclaiming with delight over the arrival of a large offering tray laden with gifts. Colorful roles and bolts of silk are neatly tied up in white paper, topped by two enormous red fish. Purple draperies patterned with phoenixes in flight are hung from the ceiling at left. The open verandah overlooks a calm lake framed by delicate pink cherry blossoms. A charming design with fine embossed detail on the white kimono collars.
