Yoritomo Watching Military Exercises, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Terrific scene of Minamoto no Yoritomo watching as his men practice fighting skills. Wearing full armor and black helmets, two groups face off in a mock battle, armed with spears with padded tips. Samurai are gathered on either side, and noblemen sit alongside the pavilion in the center where Lord Yoritomo presides from a cushion on a platform. Pine trees frame the scene above. A fascinating subject, wonderfully detailed.
