Seated General, 1866

Series; Sixty-odd Famous Generals of Japan

Seated General, 1866 - Interesting portrait of a general sitting on a leopard skin, holding out a shallow brown bowl. He grimaces angrily as he stares ahead, his lips firmly pressed together. He wears a fine suit of armor over a red brocade robe and a helmet topped with a lion figurine. One of his swords is cased in a black bear fur scabbard, and the tips of his black bear fur shoes can just be seen from beneath his armor. A nice expressive figure with fine detail in the armor and weapons.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with somewhat stiff paper. Horizontal centerfold. Toning, slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
