Sato Tadanobu Battling Monks at Mt. Yoshino, 1858

Comments - Fantastic image of the great warrior Sato Tadanobu on the verandah of a temple on Mt. Yoshino, facing off against a troop of warrior monks. A brave retainer of Minamoto no Yoshitsune, Tadanobu stands with one foot balancing on the verandah railing, his sword in hand as he prepares to leap over the side to do battle with the priest Yokawa Kakuhan. Kakuhan stands below, gesturing with his hand, frowning with displeasure as his men gather behind him. The view looks out over a lake surrounded by mountains, snowflakes falling through the dark night air. A terrific composition with a stunning natural setting and handsome wood grain impression. A great subject for a samurai enthusiast.

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 29"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Slight soiling, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
