Bearded Nobleman in Conversation, 1893

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a bearded nobleman in conversation with a pair of samurai. He wears an elegant robe patterned with swirling clouds with a circular dragon motif on the chest, and a tall yellow court cap. He grimaces angrily as he stares at the seated warrior before him, who leans forward with an angrily expression. Another samurai sits behind him watching with a solemn frown, while the two beauties seem concerned. A verandah overlooks the water beyond, with low mountains in the distance. The silhouettes of other noblemen wearing court caps can be seen on the fine reed blind behind the group at right. Nicely detailed with fine line work in the hair and touches of burnishing.
