Suido Bridge and Surugadai - Terrific view of Edo during the annual Boys' Festival, with an enormous carp banner twisting in the breeze from a pole in the foreground, and two more fluttering in the distance. The banners celebrate a boy of age six or seven living in the household, with samurai residences flying the narrow white military banners in the middle ground, and commoners displaying fish streamers or koi nobori, as they were prohibited from displaying the other kind. The deep blue Kanda River runs across the lower page, with Mt. Fuji rising in the distance. One of the most striking images from this series, beautifully detailed and colored, with fine bokashi shading in the water and sky. A charming small reprint.

Artist - Hiroshige (1797 - 1858)

Image Size - 7 5/8" x 4 7/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Small spot. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
