Oda Nobunaga, Warrior, and Nobleman, 1878

Series; Mirror of Famous People of Great Japan

Oda Nobunaga, Warrior, and Nobleman, 1878 - Handsome design from Toshinobu's series depicting famous people of Japan. At right, Oda Nobunaga, Japan's great unifier, sits on a red cushion, looking to the side with a keen expression, his graying hair pulled back into an upright knot. In the foreground, a warrior strikes a dramatic pose thrusting his tasseled command baton ahead of him, blue cords swinging in the air around his arm with the force of his movement. He wears a fine suit of armor over a purple robe and matching pants, and a helmet topped with horns. Above, a nobleman looks ahead with his hands resting atop a fan. A striking design, beautifully detailed with a burnished pattern on the purple pants and robe, and a faint burnished pattern on Nobunaga's white kimono.
