Ichikawa Danzo as the Monk Ikkyu, 1865

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danzo as the monk Ikkyu, who like to go about on New Year's with a skull admonishing to remind revelers of the inevitability of death. Here, he carries a blue banner with a skull on it in, pausing to look back over his shoulder with a slightly worried expression. He wears a monk's mantle over a black robe and gray kimono, and straw sandals. Behind him, a traditional holiday display of pine and bamboo stands outside an entrance. A nice design with an interesting setting.
