Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Dragon Princess, 1890

Comments - Great kabuki scene of the Dragon Princess, the daughter of the Dragon King, at the king's palace in the sea. Three men with long red wigs topped with dragon figurines confront the beauty, glaring up at her angrily, each holding a striped stick. The beauty looks over her shoulder with a sober expression as she holds a fan behind her head. The walls of the palace rise up out of the water behind the figures, with a large entrance gate at left and flags waving above. A striking design with large colorful figures, nicely detailed.
