Hiroshige (1797 - 1858) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Series; One Hundred Views of Mt. Fuji (Fujimi hyakuzu)

Hiroshige's One Hundred Views of Mt. Fuji - Fantastic limited edition reprint from a very rare Hiroshige series titled "A Hundred Views of Mt. Fuji," which he designed in 1857. This wonderful collection features sketches of Mt. Fuji from both near and far. The series was not published until 1859 after the artist's death.

The original format featured diptychs with each image spread across two pages of a folio. These lovely reprints are full oban size, eliminating the distraction of the diptych format. These beautiful views of Mt. Fuji capture Japan's sacred mountain in a variety of seasons, framed by rugged pine trees, wrapped in misty clouds, or seen in the distance beyond a deep blue ocean or tall hills. The snow-capped peak rises majestically in each of these lovely Hiroshige landscapes, which feature soft shading and a lively sketch-like quality. A wonderful limited edition series by Hodo Publishing, numbered 272/300. See publisher's seal example below (not included). Would make an interesting and unusual addition to a Hiroshige collection. We've never seen these Hiroshige designs in reprint before, so bid now at our low Fuji Arts opening bid prices!
