Series; Harimaze Pictures of Famous Places in Edo

Harimaze Pictures of Famous Places in Edo - Attractive harimaze or cutout print by Hiroshige featuring several separate designs illustrating famous places in Edo. Harimaze are woodblock prints featuring small scenes designed to be cut apart and pasted into albums or applied to screens. These charming subjects are nicely detailed and colored, and many include fine bokashi shading.

Adachi Publisher Woodblock Prints from the Frank Lloyd Wright Collection - American architect Frank Lloyd Wright was an avid collector of Japanese woodblock prints. While doing research in the Frank Lloyd Wright Archives in 1991, the scholar Roger Keyes rediscovered an almost complete set of blocks for Hiroshige's "Harimaze Pictures of Famous Places in Edo," which Wright had purchased in 1913 while visiting Japan. The Frank Lloyd Wright Archives worked with the Adachi Institute of Woodblock Prints to produce a re-issue of the harimaze series from the original blocks in a limited edition of 220 sets, each containing 10 woodblock prints. Each features the embossed seal of Frank Lloyd Wrights' Taliesin West in the lower left corner. This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a rare original Hiroshige.
