Festival Celebration, 1884 - Intriguing scene of a wide assortment of people enjoying meals as part of a festival celebration. At right, a young boy presents an elderly woman with an offering tray as she holds out a tray full of rice cakes. On the floor beside her a basket holds knobby roots. Other guests enjoy identical meals from black lacquer stands holding fish, rice, and a covered bowl. At upper right a nobleman pours sake for a kneeling man. A fascinating subject with terrific detail in the expressive faces.
