Military History of Kagoshima, 1877

Comments - Fantastic depiction of rebels attacking at Kagoshima during the Satsuma Rebellion. Rebel samurai burst out of large wooden containers to battle the Meiji imperial soldiers in black uniforms, swords clashing. An explosion at left sends clouds of orange smoke and red rays radiating into the night sky. In the background at far right, the rebel leader Saigo Takamori charges into the fray on horseback, directing his men with his sword. A dynamic battle image from this historic event with bold color and a lively composition. Nice burnished detail in the black uniforms. A great choice for collectors interested in this historic war.
