Scene from Oto no Miya Asahi no Yoroi, 1851

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene from the play "Scene from Oto no Miya Asahi no Yoroi" featuring from left, Onoe Baiko IV as Nagai's wife Hanazono and Ichikawa Ebizo V as the elderly samurai Saito Tarosaemon. The beauty pulls on one of his pants legs that trail beneath his feet as he tries to walk away, an alarmed expression on her face. He turns to lookback at her with an angry grimace, one hand resting atop the hilt of his sword. Panels lining the back of the room are decorated with a scene of autumn maple leaves above a river and fine reed blinds above. Nice expressive figures.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 18 1/2"

Condition - This print with good color and detail as shown. Two separate panels, backed with paper. Stitching holes at side, a few wormholes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling. Please see photos for details.
