Shuntei's Customs and Manners - Lovely design from Miyagawa Shuntei's 1897 - 1898 series depicting the "Customs and Manners" of women. Each print features beauties engaged in everyday activities, from admiring a view of the moon to strolling through a garden, styling the hair, or catching fireflies. Beautifully composed and attractively colored, these serene images provide a look at the traditional activities and lifestyle of upper-class ladies in Meiji era Japan. Nicely detailed with soft shading, many include deluxe treatments such as burnishing or embossing. A rarely seen series.

Special detail - Burnishing on the hair, metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone on the mirror, title cartouche and the gourds on the wall panel.
