Comments - Lovely triptych depicting Prince Genji entertaining beauties at his mansion in springtime. He relaxes on a cushion at right, smiling with amusement as he watches two women having a mock sword battle using their folding fans. At left, another woman plays the shamisen, a beauty standing beside her dressed in a purple outer kimono patterned with Genji symbols. The verandah overlooks cherry trees covered with pink and white blossoms against the evening sky, the palace building extending at right. Wonderful detail in the elegant kimono fabrics and fine household furnishings. A beautiful design. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.
