Original Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Japanese Woodblock Print
Boating under the Moonlight, 1890

Comments - Lovely image of a shirabyoshi dancer and a young attendant on a boat poled by a young nobleman under the moonlight. She wears the traditional dancer's attire of a court cap and red hakama trousers, paired with a flowing lavender robe bordered with a butterfly design. Her attendant carries a hand drum and looks over her shoulder at two beauties watching from the shore. The full moon glows softly in the darkening evening sky. Beautifully drawn with delicate embossing on the white kimono and white kimono collars. A fantastic image and a wonderful choice for collectors. A rarely seen Chikanobu design.
