Comments - Striking scene of a fight taking place in an encampment during the Battle of Shizugatake from the "Taikoki," a biography of the great general Toyotomi Hideyoshi. At left, a warrior on horseback at grips a large club as his horse rears. In the center, several young samurai rush at him, brandishing their swords above their heads. At right, a general on a brown horse watches with an angry expression, surrounded by retainers, many aiming spears and swords at the combatants in the center. The paulownia crest of the Minamoto clan can be seen on a banner at lower right and the purple drapery at left. Great expressive figures with wonderful color and detail in the armor and weapons.
