Scene from Kotoba no Hana Momiji no Yozakari, 1849

Comments - Handsome scene from the kabuki play "Kotoba no Hana Momiji no Yozakari" depicting a family gathering. From right, the actors are Ichimura Uzaemon XII as the son-in-Law Sashichi, Arashi Koroku V as the mother Oiso (R), Fujikawa Kayu III as the older sister Ofusa, Nakamura Utaemon IV as Honchomaru Tsunagoro (C), Bando Shuka I as the younger sister Koito, and Nakamura Gennosuke II as Uncle Jubei. In the center, Ofusa holds a red lacquer sake cup, smiling sweetly as she looks at her brother-in-law Saschichi, who scratches his head in a puzzled manner. Nicely detailed with burnishing on the black kimono collars and the black kimono, and a lightly embossed geometric pattern on Ofusa's kimono.
