Persimmons by Mabuchi Toru (1920 - 1994)

Original Mabuchi Toru (1920 - 1994) Japanese Woodblock Print
Persimmons

Comments - Handsome modern print of a persimmons and leaves set against a background of geometric shapes. The block at upper right features a gray checkerboard, while the shape at left has gray and white stripes. The line work is rendered in black, gray, and as negative white, some of the outlines changing color as they intersect with other forms. A great bold image, mounted along the top edge to a blank card. This design came in with a series of prints used as holiday cards by the Yoseido Gallery of Tokyo, so it likely has the same provenance. A classic example of Mabuchi's work, whose larger prints sell for around $1,500. This small format design is a nice choice for a collector interested in modern Japanese prints.

Artist - Mabuchi Toru (1920 - 1994)

Image Size - 6" x 4" + margins as shown; card 7" x 5"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Mounted along top edge to blank card, could be removed. Light toning. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
