The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers - Handsome design from Sadanobu II's series "The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers, " the story of the 47 ronin. Each print contains two acts from the kabuki play, bordered with the 47 ronin's trademark dogtooth border, this time in violet. These colorful designs feature expressive figures in beautifully detailed settings. An interesting and unusual format and a nice choice for a collector interested in this timeless tale of honor and revenge.

The 47 Ronin, Act 8: Michiyuki (The Bridal Journey), circa 1806 - Handsome depiction of Act 8 from "The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers" (Kanadehon Chushingura), the classic drama based on the story of the 47 ronin. Here, the beauty Konami and her mother walk along a road at the water's edge during the bridal journey to reunite Tonase with her betrothed, Oboshi Rikiya, the son of the ronin leader Oboshi Yuranosuke, at his country home in Yamashina. At lower right, Konami holds a sleeve to her chin as her mother looks back at her. Tonase has two swords tucked under her arm and uses a walking stick. At lower left, porters carrying bundles chat with each other, while an enclosed palanquin can be seen at upper right. The road curves back along the shore with a village in the distance. A rarely seen Hokusai series, nicely detailed.
