From an untitled series of parodies of scenes from kabuki plays
A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Parodies of Scenes from Kabuki Plays - Terrific comic scene from a rare Yoshitoshi series depicting parodies of scenes from popular kabuki plays. Each chuban sized print features an amusing interpretation of an act from a kabuki drama that would have been easily recognizable by the audience. This series is not well documented, and we've only run across a few of these designs before. Roger Keyes states that it was published circa early 1886, and later republished in 1897 (Keyes 495). An interesting choice for a Yoshitoshi collector.

Artist - Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)

Image Size - 6 3/4" x 9 1/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at sides from previous mounting. Slight separation at end of vertical centerfold, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
