Original Tanigami Konan (1879 - 1928) Japanese Woodblock Print
Melastoma and Salvia

Series; Album of Western Plants and Flowers

Album of Western Plants and Flowers - Lovely woodblock print from Tanigami Konan's "Album of Western Plants and Flowers" series. First published by Unsodo as a five-volume set in 1917, these beautiful designs illustrate the exotic flora of the Western world, with lush blossoms and colorful foliage from the four seasons. Carefully observed and beautifully drawn with delicate line work, these attractive images are enlivened with a range of color from soft pastels to rich jewel tones. Although the plants are Western, the artistic treatment is distinctly Japanese, with a wonderful sense of asymmetrical balance and a fine contrast between flowers and leaves. A terrific choice to collect or display, either singly or in groups. The prints in this group are from a later edition.

Image Size - 8 3/4" x 13" + margins as shown
