Samurai at a Palace Gate

Comments - Terrific scene of samurai gathered at the entrance to a palace, the heavy wooden gate open as men stand in the doorway. A young warrior sits on a folding stool at right, a tasseled command baton in his hand, his robes patterned with the paulownia mon or crest of the Minamoto family. An attendant behind him carries a tall standard with the same mon. A cluster of elaborate battle flags and standards can be seen at lower left. An interesting and unusual composition with wonderful detail in the armor and battle standards, and fine expressive faces.
