Original Hiroshige III (1843 - 1894) Japanese Woodblock Print
Actors and Dance Instructions, 1867

Comments - Handsome kabuki triptych featuring three actors surrounded by small figures illustrating various dance steps and movements. From left, the actors are Sawamura Tanosuke III, Ichimura Kakitsu IV, and Kawarazaki Gonjuro I. The beauty smiles as she looks up from tuning her shamisen, the man in the center grinning back at her. The fellow at right holds a tiny cup of sake between his fingers, looking up as though watching the miniature dancers. The small figures are wonderfully animated, each accompanied by instructions. A terrific image with great detail, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Artist - Hiroshige III (1843 - 1894)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 28 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight separation at ends of vertical fold at side of two panels. Slight toning and soiling. Please see photos for details.
