Artist Painting a Screen, 1886 - Handsome scene of an artist at work in his studio with several visitors watching. He looks critically at a screen panel painted with a design of the sun and waves, a couple of brushes in his other hand. Additional paintings are stacked against the wall and brushes and other supplies line the shelves behind him. A beauty and a samurai watch with admiring looks, while an elderly woman at right seems unhappy, frowning at the artist. From left, the actors are Sawamura Tossho, Bando Shucho, Ichikawa Danjuro, and Ichikawa Sadanji. An intriguing subject with fine detail in the interior setting, and delicate cloth embossing in the screen panels.
