Cannon Attack on a Castle, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Incredible triptych depicting samurai troops using an enormous cannon fire upon a castle. The gun is situated on a hilltop across from the extensive walled castle complex, braced with timbers and bales of straw. Smoke belches from the cannon as flaming shots streak across the night sky. At lower right, a general on horseback directs his men across the wooden bridge to the palace gates, waving his tasseled command baton as her urges them forward. A fantastic illustration of the use of a cannon in battle by samurai. Wonderfully detailed and atmospheric, with the moon obscured by the drifting smoke. A great choice for a collector interested in the samurai tradition.
