Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Nikki Danjo Masanori, 1852

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Kodanji IV as the evil magician Nikki Danjo Masanori in the play "Kozotte Kuruwa Mimasu no Datezome." Danjo used his powers to transform himself into a rat to steal an incriminating scroll. Here, he has returned to human form, clutching the scroll with both hand as he stares ahead with an angry, tight-lipped frown. He wears a gray vest over a darker gray kimono detailed with a burnished geometric pattern, his hair combed smoothly back into wings flanking his topknot. A nice expressive figure, also in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 10" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Horizontal centerfold, wormhole, repaired. Slight toning and soiling. Please see photos for details.
