Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Natsume Shirosaburo and Bando Shuka I as the Niigata Geisha Omatsu, 1851

Comments - Great kabuki double portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Natsume Shirosaburo, later known as Hayami Masajiro Tsuneharu, and Bando Shuka I as the Niigata Geisha Omatsu, who is actually Ogata Jiraiya, the female bandit of Kasamori Pass. The beauty stands behind her companion, wearing a black robe patterned with pine branches over a suit of armor with a black hood tied around her neck, her look hair pulled back into a low ponytail. She looks to the side with a suspicious expression as she holds her cased sword. The blind Shirosaburo cradles a young child to his chest, a red cloth clutched in his other hand. A handsome design with fine bokashi shading and strong woodgrain impression in the night sky.
