Kawarazaki Gonjuro as Yaegaki, 1859

Comments - Handsome portrait of Kawarazaki Gonjuro as the samurai Yaegaki, reading a letter by the light of a crescent moon. He looks down with a troubled frown as he unrolls the scroll. He wears a light brown kimono tucked into striped pants, his swords at his side. A few loose wisps of hair frame his face, giving him a slightly disheveled appearance. A tall black fence rises at right, framed by a pine tree, with undulating water at left. An attractive design with soft bokashi shading and a poignant, expressive figure.

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 10" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Stitching holes at one side, small hole, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, small mark. Please see photos for details.
