Night Attack of the Faithful Retainers, 1852

Comments - Terrific depiction of the night attack of the 47 ronin on Moronao's mansion. After bursting through the wooden gate at right, the ronin rush forward with spears and swords to meet the retainers attempting to defend their master's palace. At right, Oboshi Yuranosuke directs the assault from a folding chair, gesturing with his command baton as the samurai behind him keep a lookout on the street. Other warriors have clambered over the roof, surveying the action below. An unusual and interesting view of this legendary event, with wonderful detail in the architectural setting.
