Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin.

Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.

Comments - Charming scene of two beauties enjoying their spare time, one arranging flowers while her companion smokes a slender pipe. The woman in front carefully selects a chrysanthemum stem from a red lacquer tray of blossoms to place in the rustic-looking vase at lower right. A completed floral design is shown in a container at left. An attractive image form daily life in the Edo era.
