Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of four men strolling along the embankment of the Sumida River, enjoying the evening cool. At right, one fellow strike a cymbal or small drum in his hand while his companion works a pair of wooden clappers. The young man in the center tucks up the back of his dark blue and white cotton kimono as he pats his friend on the back. At left, a beauty watches them from a pleasure boat, relaxing against the roof of the cabin. The silhouette of a woman inside can be seen on the fine reed blind. Fireworks explode overhead, sending down trails of orange sparks and releasing small toys, including a miniature octopus, a puffer fish, a Daruma doll, and two small umbrellas. Teahouses line the opposite shore, their red paper lanterns creating a festive air. The actors in the center panel are Nakamura Fukusuke IV and Kataoka Gado III. A handsome design with a nicely detailed setting.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight paper remnants on reverse at top edge from previous mounting. A few small losses and tears at edges, a few small holes, repaired. Slight toning, a few creases. Please see photos for details.
