Danshichi Kurobei Drinking from a Well - Terrific portrait of the otokodate Danshichi Kurobei, the lead character in a kabuki play, who killed his father-in-law after an argument. This fantastic image shows the bare-chested Danshichi after the evil deed, drinking heartily from a wooden bucket over a well, water splashing over his body. His sword is thrust into the ground nearby, his checked robe lying in a crumpled heap behind him. Morning glories frame the scene overhead and surround the title cartouche. A handsome print with lively detail and soft shading.
