Comments - Terrific illustration of the Meiji Emperor and Empress and members of the court enjoying an outing to Maruyama in Shiba Park. The emperor stands at left dressed in an elegant military uniform trimmed with braid and fringed epaulets. An attendant kneels beside him holding his plumed hat. The empress stands in the center holding a folding fan. She wear robe patterned with phoenixes over a white kimono tucked into red hakama pants. The hilltop location provides a sweeping view of the rooftops below and the ocean beyond, framed by bright pink cherry blossoms. An attractive design with vibrant color and delicate embossing on the white kimono. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.
