Comments - Interesting kabuki scene from the play "Ichiban Norime Iki no Sashimono." In the center, the stepdaughter Kakezara stands outside the step, her torso bound with a rope held by the servant Johei, who sits beneath a tree at left. She tilts her head with a forlorn smile as her stepmother Kataomoi watches from the window, the sleeves of her leaf print kimono torn. Katamoi grimaces angrily as she rests her hand atop a pipe, while their laundress rests an elbow over her shoulder. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Kobunji I, Sawamura Tanosuke III, Seki Sanjuro III, and Seki Utasuke. A handsomely detailed setting, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Art.
