A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Tales of the Floating World on Eastern Brocade - Dating from 1867 - 1868, this terrific early series by Yoshitoshi illustrates famous tales by a variety of storytellers. The stories are retold by Kanagaki Robun in text blocks that take the form of a book with the pages bent back. Yoshitoshi depicts the violence and drama of these popular narratives with wonderful realism and his characteristic attention to detail. Images from this early series are rarely seen on the market and are great choice for a Yoshitoshi enthusiast or a collector interested in Japanese folklore and legends.

A Rare Chirimengami-e Print - This is an unusual "crepe" print, known in Japanese as "chirimen-gami-e," which literally means "compressed thread paper print." After the woodblock was printed in the traditional manner, the print went through a mechanical process that created a uniform crinkled appearance similar to crepe paper, while also reducing the size considerably. Chirimengami-e became popular during the Meiji era. An interesting example of a specialized Japanese print technique that would make a fun addition to a collection.
