Series; Flowers of Edo, Excitement at Night

Arashi Kichisaburo III as a Fireman, 1860 - Handsome kabuki portrait of Arashi Kichisaburo III as a fireman battling a night fire. He grimaces as he looks over his shoulder, holding a quilted cloth robe tied over his shoulder and torso. His quilted fireman's jacket features a pattern of red flowers and green leaves, worn over a black undergarment and tied with a rust dotted sash. His hair is tied back with a dotted cloth. The lanterns of other firefighters glow in the distance, their silhouettes just visible against the dark sky. Beautiful detail in the intricate quilting, with a hand-applied spattering of dark red pigment to simulate flying embers or ashes.

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Very slight paper remnants on reverse at edges from previous mounting. Slight toning. Writing in red on background. Please see photos for details.
