Comments - Wonderful depiction of the tale of the fisherman Urashima Taro and the Dragon Princess. According to legend, Urashima Taro rescued a turtle from some children who were teasing it. The animal rewarded him with a visit to the Dragon King's Palace beneath the sea, where the Dragon Princess entertained him. Here, Urashima Taro rides on the back of the ancient turtle with moss trailing from the back of its shell as he takes him to meet the princess. Dressed in elegant robes, she stands atop the water with two young attendants holding fans over her. The palace can be seen in the distance at right. A charming design from this popular story, beautifully detailed, with embossed lines indicating the undulating waves of the water.
