Autumn Moon-viewing Scene from Inaka Genji, 1847 - 1852 - Handsome scene of Prince Genji preparing to write a letter or compose a verse in the evening, a sheaf of paper in one hand and a brush in the other. A writing set with an ink stone and water dripper rests on the floor nearby. Behind him, a smiling attendant holds out a black lacquer box. An ornate lamp hanging at upper right depicts descending geese and is trimmed with long tassels. The room opens onto a view of the water and low mountains beyond. An attractive subject.
