The 47 Ronin, Act 1: Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine: The Helmet Inspection, 1862 - Handsome kabuki scene from Act 1 of the "Kanadehon Chushingura," the kabuki play based on the famous tale of the 47 ronin. Lady Kaoyo, the wife of Lord Hangan, has arrived at the Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine to identify the helmet of a fallen warrior. At lower left, Lord Wakasanosuke glares angrily up at Lord Moronao after witnessing Moronao making advances to Lady Kaoyo. Lord Hangan stands between the pair, frowning at his companion. Handsomely composed, with nice expressive figures.
