Street Knights in an Autumn Landscape, 1853

Comments - Handsome four-panel kabuki scene of four otokodate or street knights in an autumn landscape. Each wears a boldly checked kimono tied with a red obi, and is armed with a single sword and a shakuhachi flute, which could be used as a weapon if necessary. The fellow in the second panel from the left grimaces angrily as he stares at his companion, one hand resting atop the hilt of his sword and the other lifting the hem of his robe. In the third panel from left, Kaminari Shokuro looks back over his shoulder with a solemn frown. At right, An no Heibei looks suspiciously out of the corners of his eyes as he holds a blue towel draped over his shoulder. Autumn grasses and blossoms grow alongside a stream that meanders through the background. An attractive multi-panel design.
