Courtesan and Visitors, 1860

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of a courtesan and two visitors in a room, the beauty smiling over her shoulder at the man at right, who leans forward with an eager grin, a blue shadow above his lip from not shaving. She wears an elegant red kimono patterned with stylized waterwheels over a red under robe, her hair arranged in two loops adorned with combs and hairpins, including one decorated with a bird in flight similar to the ones on her obi. A man stands in the doorway at right with his sword in hand, frowning unhappily as he watches the woman, the curtain hanging over one shoulder. Nice detail in the clothing and the setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 29" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Horizontal centerfold, a few wormholes, repaired. A few creases, slight soiling. Please see photos for details.
