Minakuchi: Kichijuru of the Maru-Ebiya, 1821 - 1823 - Charming image of a beauty ducking as she goes out a short doorway, turning her head to look up as she lifts the edge of her robe with her hand. She wears a rose outer robe patterned with maple leaves and bordered with a floral brocade over a matching kimono trimmed with a print. Her hair is pulled back into a sleek bun, adorned with a tortoiseshell comb and hairpins with maple leaf motifs. The inset at upper left depicts travelers climbing a hill at Minakuchi along the Tokaido Road, with mountains in the distance. An attractive design, nicely composed and detailed. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.
