Lion Dancers, 1867 - Great kabuki scene of three actors portraying lion dancers. From left, the actors are Otani Tomoemon V as Fukami Jiro, Nakamura Shikan IV as Hidetaro, and Sawamura Tossho II as Tomiki Saburo. Each wears a costume with white pompoms on it, a flowing wig, and a headdress of a peony atop folding fans with bells attached. In the center, the white wigged dancer raises a peony branch above his head with angry, tight-lipped frown. The younger dancer with the red wig at left reacts with a sneer. Nice large figures set against a dark night sky, detailed with beautiful embossing on the white wig.
