Courtesans of the Kimpei-ro, 1869 - Lovely scene showing elegant courtesans enjoying the view from the verandah of the modern, Western-style Kimpei-ro establishment in the Shin-Yoshiwara. The beauties are dressed in sumptuous formal kimono and are accompanied by young kamuro or child apprentices in matching attire. Lanterns adorned with colorful tassels hang overhead, and guests can be seen inside through the tall glass windows. Wonderful detail in the architectural setting and fine kimono fabrics. A charming image.
